In case you’re wondering, NOW is the time to run for school board

Writer: KOFEE BloggerKOFEE Blogger

In light of the barrage of executive orders coming out of Washington, many of which strive to limit the rights of various human beings, those who want to support policies which protect ALL KASD students need to run for school board.

You want to run to ensure that KASD is a safe and welcoming place for women and girls, students with disabilities, black and brown children, non-christian children, LGBTQIA+ students, economically disadvantaged students, neurodiverse students, and ALL others.

You want to run because you’re NOT OK with some of the recent school board decisions like:

  • Banning books

  • Refusing to fund a social worker at no cost to the district just because the website of one of the partner organizations contained language regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Cancelling a school-wide, Foundation-funded, interdisciplinary reading program because the chosen book is about global warming

  • Rescinding the Educational Equity policy

You want to run because you feel powerless as a result of the chaos in the federal government, this is something you can do. Run for local office where your vote and your voice can have a direct impact on your community and contribute to building the future you want for yourself, your children, your families, and society as a whole.

If not you, then who? Who will stand up for ALL KASD students?
